If you’re wondering if your loved one is a good fit for hospice, it may mean they’re already eligible for this specialized comfort care. Some other signs that hospice care is the right choice for your loved one include frequent hospitalizations or ER visits, increased or uncontrolled pain, progressive weight loss, difficulty swallowing, and inability to perform activities of daily living. If you are seeing these signs and wondering if hospice is appropriate, please call us or visit here to learn more.
Most hospice patients in New Jersey have their hospice care covered through Medicare Part A, specifically the Medicare Hospice Benefit. This benefit covers the cost of hospice care services related to the person’s terminal illness and any other related conditions. Samaritan is certified by Medicare to provide hospice care. We accept their reimbursement as coverage for services related to the primary hospice diagnosis. For care unrelated to the terminal diagnosis, Medicare A/B will continue to provide patients their routine benefits including physician visits. Please click here for additional information.
If you believe that hospice care and palliative care are the same, you are not alone. Many believe that both terms describe the same type of care. While they are similar, they are not the same. Hospice care is for anyone living with a serious illness, no longer seeking curative treatment, and whose remaining lifespan is estimated at six months or less. Learn more about hospice care here. Palliative Care is for people at any stage of a serious illness from the time of diagnosis, through treatments, and through end of life. Your condition does not have to be incurable. Learn more about palliative care here.
Caring for a loved one with a serious illness is one of the most important roles you’ll play. Caregiving is a selfless and generous thing to do. It can be rewarding – and it can be exhausting.
