Samaritan quickly adapted to ensure the continuation of essential services for people with advanced illness throughout the pandemic while honoring the fundamental essentials of palliative care to relieve suffering and honor the patients’ goals of care.

Palliative medicine is the medical specialty that honors a patient’s goals of care and supports treatment decisions. It helps relieve pain and symptoms caused by serious illness.

Thanks to Christine Parker-DeLeon’s moving essay submission to Miller Transportation’s Charitable Giving Program, Samaritan receives generous donation to benefit hospice patients and their families.

I encourage you to use the New Year to reflect on your healthcare wishes and the importance of advance care planning. Have conversations about it with your family – preferably now around the kitchen table, rather than later in the ICU during a crisis.
