Marlton, N.J. – Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice recently honored Chief Operating Officer Margie Ivins, MS, BSN, RN, for 20 years of service to the not-for-profit hospice and palliative care organization.
“Margie’s incredible clinical knowledge, paired with her exceptional business acumen, has always been the gold standard of care we provide at Samaritan,” said Mary Ann Boccolini, president and CEO of Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice. “Margie is an incredible worker, and a great motivator for her peers. Her enthusiasm and guidance has helped us grow immeasurably over the last 20 years.”
Ivins, a Sicklerville resident, joined Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice as a per diem nurse in 1998, and continued to rise through the organization, taking on roles including intake coordinator, clinical manager and vice president of clinical services. In 2012 Ivins became the organization’s first-ever chief operating officer. In this position, Ivins oversees clinical operations, information technology and quality and compliance for Samaritan, which serves an average 450 hospice patients a day in a five-county, 2,200-square-mile service area.
In her tenure at Samaritan, Ivins has served a pivotal role in creating Samaritan’s non-hospice programs such as Palliative Medical Partners, which employs five physicians and 10 nurse practitioners to address a patient’s pain and symptoms from serious illness or the side effects of treatments in order to enhance quality of life.
Ivins also supervised the opening of two inpatient hospice facilities including South Jersey’s first free-standing center in 2016 – The Samaritan Center at Voorhees. Ivins has led the organization in many technology-driven changes and, in 2018, achieving a record-high number of patients served each day
“Margie does whatever it takes to ensure our patients get the best care possible,” said Boccolini. “She works tirelessly as a patient advocate, and because of this she has left an indelible impact on the patients, their families and all of those who have the pleasure of working with her.”
